WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO RECRUIT & RETAIN GOOD TALENT?

Locating and retaining skilled and hard-working employees continues to be an ongoing challenge.  With more executives and business leaders planning to retire in the near future, many companies are scurrying to find solid candidates, who would make good replacements.

What are you doing and where are you looking to locate talented prospects?  Employers are encouraged to think "out-of-the-box".  There needs to be more creative ways to find and attract good employees.

Here are some things to think about when developing your recruiting efforts:

  • Of those working employees looking to make a change, most  have been frustrated that their existing employers do not provide training or growth opportunities.
  • Use multiple venues to recruit.  Switch these around, especially based on the type of position you are trying to fill.
  • You are probably posting your openings on your company's website, but should use some job posting sites as well.
  • It is wise to choose one (but no more than two) staffing firm, who you respect, can build a partnership and understands your business.  Use them for some of your placements.
  • Think about where those people you are seeking are likely to frequent.  For instance, gyms, sports or auto stores, grocery stores, etc.
  • Another place to consider posting might be apartment complexes near work facility.
  • Trade and professional organizations are another venue to share job openings.
There are other ideas you might consider once you begin thinking outside the box.  However, two things to remember to do once you find your new employees:
  1. Provide a good "On-Boarding" program in order that the new employee has a good foundation about your company, including to offer a "go-to" person for questions.
  2. Don't forget to offer training and coaching opportunities.  Employees WANT to grow and continue learning.
