There is a wide range of responses when you ask an employer how his/her company is doing. Some are moving the location of their companies, some are downsizing or closing, while others are hiring. Our nation's economy also has various areas of strengths and weaknesses. So when I am asked how I think most businesses are doing, there is NO answer that fits all.
Those employers, who are growing, seem to be doing some different and creative things to stimulate development. Doing the same things that a company has done for years appear to stifle growth. Still, any changes a company makes need to be given lots of research and thought. It is important to consider any consequences to changes that you may make.
If you bring new employees on board, who have had big successes elsewhere, you need to keep in mind what type of business it was, how substantial was the change, did they research it ahead, would it fit or appeal to your customers/clients? Lots of questions should be pursued before jumping into a dramatic change in your business, services or products.
Some areas of business are accustom to regular changes. For instance, over the years music has taken on a multitude of venues. In just recent years we've gone from records to 8-tracks, to cassettes, to floppy discs, then round discs, and thumb drives. Almost anything related to technology has had a series of ongoing transitions.
When making changes in your business to help boost its growth and activity, you also need to consider how it can be marketed, and what challenges it might encounter. A new idea can seem good while in one's head, but when you put it on paper, or try to implement it, you may find hurdles you hadn't expected.
Still, a business needs to keep current and useful. If someone else had your service or product, what might they do that you hadn't thought of? What costs might be expected or what risks might develop? No one wants negative surprises!!!
Look around to see how your company might address the many challenges of people and businesses today. Any time that you can help to ease the life of others or improve another company's challenges, it is worth researching and determining the cost and risks involved.
One thing is definite: Doing nothing to benefit your business is NOT wise! Keep your ears and eyes open for creative ideas. You may even surprise yourself!
