Our world is growing closer with all the technology and social media these days, and yet I hear many company leaders voice frustration and disappointment in regards to poor communication, which often leads to conflicts.
Though this can involve the whole organization, good communication really begins at the "top". What are employers saying to their workforces? Do they make it clear to all what is expected of them? Does the employer relay what the company's vision is?
When employees are hired, it is important that they understand the purpose and culture of that company. What is important to the company? What are the character traits needed of each employee?
This sounds so simple and elementary, and yet with our extremely diverse workforce, who come from a wide range of places and have different values, it needs to be clearly relayed what that employer expects and needs of each employee and the vision and purpose of the company. I have repeated this as that is what your employees need repeated as well.
No, they are not children, but people need important messages repeated in order for them to grasp the importance of the message. As new people are added, HR and the employer need to confirm that this message is understood and make sure the employee accepts and agrees. Hearing directly from the employer carries a much stronger message and helps to support what HR relays.
Good Communication also includes multiple venues in order that the message is grasped by all. People take in information differently. Some are fine with verbal explanations, while others need to read it and/or see what the means visually.
Even with good communication there can be conflicts. When these develop, seriously consider providing a Conflict Resolutions Workshop. Don't wait for a serious matter to arise. This workshop can avoid misunderstandings and improve production. Such support will only strengthen your organization.
